When to call it

When defenders line up far off our receivers, or their rusher is too fast for anything else.

Tap a player to see just their job on the field.

• QBQuarterback — PasserCatch the snap and throw to H immediately. Don't look anywhere else unless a defender is sitting on H.
• HFlex — Ball carrierAt the snap, drift back and out toward the right sideline. Catch it, then get upfield behind Y and Z.
• YInside right — Screen the inside defenderStep up and stand in the way of the nearest defender inside, hands behind your back. No contact.
• ZOutside right — Screen the cornerWalk straight at your defender and stand in their way, hands behind your back. No contact.
• CCenter — Safety valveSnap, take one step into the rusher's path (hands at your sides), then pop out to 4 yards and turn around.
• AInside left — Slant, backupTwo steps upfield, then slant to the middle. If a defender jumps the bubble, you're open.
• XOutside left — Clear outRun a go route and take your defender deep.

1. 1H right away.
2. 2If someone is sitting on H, A on the slant.

Keys to making it work

• The pass to H goes sideways or slightly back. That's legal and it's a live ball.
• Screens: just stand in the way, hands behind your back. Contact is a 10-yard penalty.
• H: catch first, then run. Follow Y and Z.
