When to call it

After a few short completions, when their defense creeps up close to stop the quick stuff.

• QBQuarterback — PasserCatch the snap, one big step back, look deep left first. Throw it early and let X run under it.
• XOutside left — Deep ball, first readSprint straight past the defender, staying 3 yards off the left sideline. Don't look back until you're past them.
• AInside left — Out, holds the cornerRun 6 yards, then cut hard to the sideline. You keep the short defender down so X is alone deep.
• CCenter — Safety valveSnap, take one step into the rusher's path (hands at your sides), then pop out to 4 yards and turn around.
• YInside right — Dig, second readRun 10 yards, then cut across the field to the left. Keep running, don't stop.
• ZOutside right — Post, pulls the deep defenderRun 10 yards, then angle toward the middle of the end zone. Run it like the ball is coming to you.
• HFlex — Swing, the escape hatchSwing out to the right flat behind the line. If the QB is in trouble, you get it.

QB reads

1. 1X deep. If X's defender is even with or behind X, let it fly.
2. 2Y crossing at 10 yards.
3. 3H in the right flat if the rusher is on you.

Keys to making it work

• QB: throw it before X is open. Aim for a spot 5 yards in front of X, toward the sideline.
• X: sell it like a short route for two steps, then take off.
• Z and A: your job is to pull defenders away from X. Run your routes full speed.
